Born and raised in Montevideo, Minnesota, a small town in Western Minnesota, Steve Larson has been playing guitar and singing since age twelve.
His thoughtful and energetic interpretations bring a freshness to the folk-rock songs he covers. His music can help us remember history (One Meatball, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner), mark us in the present moment (Sometime Other Than Now) or lay down a vision for our future (Don't Let Us Get Sick or Christmastime in Washington).
Two wonderful Guild guitars - a 1997 six-string jumbo and a 1972 twelve-string - provide the very lively acoustic accompaniment you'll hear on this CD.
Steve lives in Winton, Minnesota, a few miles from the Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area where he works as a fishing guide, house painter, poet and musician.
Playing solo gigs in Ely, Duluth, Grand Marais and surrounds, he is sometimes joined by daughter Rachel on fiddle, son Nick on guitar and friends Dave Burris-Brown and Paul Loftstrom on guitar and percussion, respectively and respectfully. They play under the band name Woodpile.
